I have eaten the same breakfast for a year and the result was that I finally started hating it. Do your body a favor and switch it up. It is so easy to get lost in habits. Try out new things, experiment and never stop searching for new ingredients. The new ingredient I got to know was vegan protein powder. I used whey protein for a long time but I felt like my body wasn’t that happy with it. Click here to see how I prepared my breakfast with whey. Then I ordered rice protein with no flavor, tried it out and wanted to vomit it. It didn’t really dissolve and there was no way for me that I would drink that shake regularly. But what to do with a kilo of rice protein? Same answer: Doing protein shakes, but my way: protein smoothie. (Let me also say that I tried different vegan protein powders and made the same experience.)
I know green smoothies are healthy but there are not that many people that enjoy them… mostly because they haven’t tried it yet. I know they look scary but try a good (!) one and get used to it. I present you the ‘beginner’ version with just greens powder. Your body will thank you. For all those who don’t feel like a green smoothie today, don’t worry, I have another one for you.
Ingredients (two servings):
The preparation is very simple. Just put everything into a blender and let it do its work. I use vegan protein powder that already contains greens such as spirulina, chlorella etc. But this is definitely not necessary. Get yourself a good greens powder and add it to the mixture. If I feel a little extra I put in some peanut powder or linseeds as well to increase the fats. If you don’t want to use greens powder then you can add vegetables. Start with just a little bit and then increase the amount when you’ve got used to it. I recommend starting with one handful of spinach.
Do you still need smoothie jars?
Ingredients (two servings):
Same thing, blend everything and you’re done! If you don’t have frozen fruit than you can add some ice cubes and the smoothie is cold. Don’t worry if you make little adjustments. In the end you have to prepare your food in a way that you love the most and really enjoy.
I love these smoothies for breakfast. I wrote ‘two servings’ but let me be real here… I almost always drink the whole shake… my appetite is just too big 😀
I love this breakfast most when I know that an early morning workout lies in front of me. I only drink one portion and do my workout. I drink the rest afterwards as a post-workout meal. If I’m really hungry, I go for a smoothie bowl. I pour the smoothie into a bowl and top it with everything I feel that day. Here are some things that are super delicious: all kinds of nuts, goji berries (not my favorite, but definitely beneficial), other dried fruit, coconut flakes, popped quinoa or amaranth, fresh fruit and dark chocolate chips.
Note: I always dissolve the protein powder in a shaker before. I’m just too paranoid that it wouldn’t dissolve otherwise. If you possess a shaker then use it. If you still need one, check this out: BULK POWDERS 600 ml Black Pro Series Storage Shaker
You may ask yourself why I add cider vinegar to both smoothies. It has so many benefits for your health. I’ll tell you more about that in an upcoming blogpost!
I hope you can do a protein smoothie that you really love. Write me your opinion or send me pictures on Instagram. I love to see your creations!
